Roger Federer, Legend, Tears, Joys

Even though he has not acheived Grand Slam yet, only with 3 Small Slam (Y2004 Y2006 Y2007), he is becoming the GOAT, the Greatest tennis player Of All Times in this year. Year 2009 belongs to Roger Federer.

Everyone could says there are still so many records before him to break: Rod Lover's Grand Slam, Andre Agassi's Career Gold Slam, Peter Sampras's 7 Titile on grass court at Wimbledon, Bjorn Borg's 6 titles on clay courts at Roland-Garros, Andre Agassi' s 4 titles on hard courts at Melbourne Park , Sampras and Ivan Lendl' 5 titles of ATP World Finals, Agassi's 17 ATP Master Series titiles, Sampras' 286 week's ATP ranking n°1st...

BUT he became 3rd player having achieved Career Grand Slam on 7th June at Roland-Garros (after Lover and Agassi), he set the record of 15 Grand Slam tournements Single Title on 5th July at Wimbledonha (surpassing Peter Samprass), he is the first person to have 5 consecutive wins at both Wimbledon adn US Open, he keeps the male record of 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals, he has already the record-20th grand slam finals (surpassing Lendl), he has set the record of 7 consecutive finals at Wimbledon, he has equaled Sampras's 5 titiles on DecoTurf hard courts of Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (another lengendary icon?) even in consecutive way (Y04-08)! More details if you're interested.

In year 2008, he falled to the bottom, he lost so many finals, lost his ranking of 1st ATP. Many peoples predicted the end of his reign over courts (over period of 2005-2007) with younger (even he si still young) genius appearing especailly Rafael Nadal.

Hard time continued for him till the beginning of 2009. The latter defeated Roger on hard court of Melbourne Park in a over 4-hours fight. What impressed so deeply everyone's memory is his breaking down in tears over the trophy presentation and his struggle to make the runner-up speech. Hard to see a great (not yet greatest) player in tears. Fans know well pains and suffrance hiden behind.

Luckily to see how he came back, from so far.

At Roland-Garros, under enormous pressure of zero-win on clay court, with eager desire of
equalling Smapras' 14-titles, he built confidence set by set. Did Agassi' presence secretly hint his victory come-back? Knowing Agassi achieved his Career Grand Slam at Roland Garros exactly 10 years ago. He is the symbol of rejuvenation and successful return. Roger didn't disappoint Agassi and all his fans around the world. From Agasssi's hand, he got the cup and became the player next him to have achieved Career Grand Slam. The match was near flawless, so usual as his style that it mignt not so impressive but at the match point, he burst into tears again, kneeling down the court. Different from Melbourne Park this time: tears of joy, tears of relief, tears of confidence. Even the storm became tears of joy, falling on purpose down from the sky to celebrate his come back.

We could say the win is less hard-fought than that of Agassi, which doesn't matter any longer before its result. Both of them are definitely respected, as exemple of hard return. Except hard work, persistence and confidence, no anything else as key to success. Easy to say, hard to do, again! CHAPEAU!!!

In trophy speech, he revealed the relief and announced he really started to enjoy playing the tennis without pressure anymore. Amazing but so powerful: it's proved only one month later at Wimbledon where he and Andy Roddick, his favored finals-victim, deliverered the instant classic: 4h17m to complete, the longest men's single final with 77 games, 30 total games in 95 mi-lasting 5th set is the record as well in grand slam.

This time, at match point, it's purely the joy of winning at place of tears, with his jumping up across the court. A true common person, like everyone. Not really. On 18th of August 2008, he lost his ATP' 1st ranking; within less than one year, he won back his 1st palyer. He became the GOAT with this match. That's all.

Almost everyone agreed Andy has performed his best match ever in his career but he faced unfortunately the Roger. Andy had improved his plays even at every levels to be near the perfect and Roger made more forehand errors. But the Goddess of Luck favored Roger one time again . With 50 ACES, Roger became the serve machine instaed of Andy who was unbreakble before match point instead of Roger. What suspense!

The essential difference exists in state of mind. He lost the first set, but came back at 2nd set under unbelievable pressure disadvantage of 2-6 at 7th game. He achieved impossible by winning 6 consecutive points, he won the set. He became unbeatble in his mind, a turning point of the match. Looking at Andy: slightly showed annoyance face two offiicial reviews giving favor to Roger. A signal of being in less stable mood? Before 3 consecutive negative baseline offcial reviews, Roger remain indifferent. Small difference in mind makes huge gap in result. It's in fact the most powerful force of Roger, while others are improving their techniques and skills. Simply a different dimension.

As the best player ever excelled in key points, the most all-rounded and near flawless player, at only 27 years old nowdays, he reserves how many surprisess sill in the future for the world. Nobody knows. Actually he's so near to many records in coming days. Seems most achievable: 1 title more to be the 1st person of 6 US Open consecutive, to equal Peter Samprason grass court at Wimbledon, to equal Andre Agassion hard courts at Melbourne Park, to equal Sampras and Ivan Lendl's 5title of ATP World Finals, 2 titles more to equal Agassi's 17 ATP Master Series titiles... More details if you're interested.

What counts more, as Sampras said "he 's humble and he is effortless on the court", because he is enjoying the tennis. Behind being effortless on the court, it's countless effort out of court which help the stable mind in match. Once someone starts enjoying doing things, little obstacle is unbeatable. Most difficult to be, the most powerful weapon as well. He just did it, that's why he is a legend and now is an icon, a credit to the game of tennis.

Enjoy the life, everone can be the stronger of the life. Thanks Roger!
